Women of DC Busts Review – Series 1 – Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

Today, I’ll be doing a review of the series 1 Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn Women of DC busts. I was sold on one of these the moment I saw the pics, and once I saw a good deal, I snapped them up. I’m also doing something a little different with this review, which will be on many (not all just yet, but after a few more weeks, it’ll be on every one) of my upcoming reviews. When you click the image, it’ll take you to a much higher resolution version of the image. Keep in mind, these higher resolution images on some statues/busts (like this) are a fair bit larger than the real deal. So you’ll be able to spot problems with them that are difficult to see in person, since I won’t be editing these as glamour shots.

I’ll start with the Harley, since she’s the one I initially wanted more. Aside from the animated pieces, I haven’t found a Harley Quinn I’ve liked until this one. The base is fantastic, but that’s almost expected with this line. One thing that stood out to me about this statue is the texturing involved. The giant hammer she’s holding looks great, the wooden texture comes off exactly as it should. The little puff balls at the end of her hat are just as nice as the hammer, great attention to detail on this sculpt.

The pose is really classy and cute. The expression on her face and her pose are quality. She looks like a real person would look, dressed up as Harley. You could say she doesn’t look quite so out there as she usually did in the animated series, but I happen to like this look. The sculpt on the whole thing is just fantastic.

Now this was a bit of a surprise. I can see why she goes for the absurd amounts that she does on Ebay, this is by far the best Poison Ivy statue/maquette/anything released to date. I’ll start off with saying the base is nice and well done, but it’s not a knock-out like some of the others.

I’ll go through the minor flaws with this one first. In terms of paint, it’s slightly sloppier than most of the line. It’s all minor details, but you should be able to make it out in the pictures. Some of the edges are weak, and the eye shadow is done a little poorly. Harley, for example, has a nice transparent blue. Ivy’s isn’t really transparent, it’s a little too dark and splotchy. It doesn’t look bad though, considering how the hair works with her face. There’s also some paint marks on her arm, but I haven’t seen that on any others, so I won’t subtract from her score on that front.

Now, on to the good stuff. The sculpt is superb. Even though it’s a simple pose, with her arms crossed (obviously to get those giant breasts pushed up to the point of bursting out of her leafy clothes), everything about it is done well. The leaf covering, the hair, the face, and the rest is great. The white skin colour, the hair and paint on the face are all quite nicely done, as well as the shading on the leaves. They nailed her expression.

Overall, I’m going to give these both a 5/5. They’re two of the best in the series, and two popular characters that really haven’t had really fantastic releases until now.

Buying Options : You’re out of luck at retail. Secondary market on ebay is your only hope. Amazon has Harley Quinn in stock at an absurd price, but check back and someone might list it for cheaper.
