Women of DC Busts Review – Series 1 – Catwoman and Hawkgirl

Here’s another review of two of the more rare Women of DC busts, the Hawkgirl and the Catwoman. When I saw pictures of these, I knew I wanted the Catwoman right off the bat. The Hawkgirl, I wasn’t 100% convinced, but seeing it in person made me change my mind.
The Catwoman is pretty much flawless for this version of the character. Mine came with a few minor paint problems on the base, but I’m thinking that happened during shipping and not from the original paintjob. Speaking of, the base is awesome. It’s a partially open bank vault and the colours are fantastic. Catwoman herself is unzipping her suit and about to drop a diamond into it, revealing about the usual amount of cleavage that Adam Hughes’ illustrations have. What really struck me was the face and the amazing paint. The face is perfect, one of the best face sculpts I’ve seen on any statue.
The Hawkgirl isn’t quite as good as the Catwoman, but she’s a lot better than I thought she’d be. She’s quite large due to both the wingspan and the base. The detailing on the base is top notch, though I wish they had gone a little lighter on the cheeseball orange “wear” splotches because the actual wear effect beneath the orange splotches looks great. The cracks are a nice touch.
Her stomach area is nicely sculpted, but I think it could’ve been just a teeny bit more refined. The sculpting and paint on the wings is nearly flawless, and what you might not have seen in pictures is that Hawkgirl is hiding her huge mace behind her back. The face is well done and cute, though not quite up there with the best of the line.
Both of these are excellent, but are they worth their price on the secondary market? I dunno, that’s up to you. Paying the crazy prices expected for these busts is tough, and I wouldn’t have bought them if I hadn’t gotten a killer price. The Catwoman is the better of the two, but the Hawkgirl is really nicely done, and I think this is about the only Hawkgirl available.
Overall, 5/5 on the Catwoman, 4.5/5 on the Hawkgirl.
