Ultimate Nightmare for $11.04 currently at Amazon
The start to the Ultimate Galactus saga, this was a fantastic way to hint at an event. Something horrific is being broadcast worldwide over the internet, tv stations, radio, in every language possible. It’s leading to people offing themselves from the sheer horror of it all. But it’s not an attack, it’s a warning.
Small parts of the Ultimate X-Men and the Ultimates decide to investigate when they find out the disturbance is coming from an area of Russia that hasn’t had any activity in decades. I don’t want to spoil too much here because there’s some really great stuff that goes on, but when you find out the reason why these broadcasts were going out, it’s one of the best openings for a comic event to date.
The art is as well done as I expected, no complaints. The story is exciting and keeps you on your toes. It’s a thriller. As the X-Men/Ultimates descend into this abandoned Russian base, the name “Ultimate Nightmare” becomes quite appropriate.
4.5/5. It’s a solid read full of suspense, easily one of the better opening arcs of a Marvel event.
