Gotta say, I was really surprised by this series. I’ve read a lot of Alan Moore, and while I find his work very well done, deep, and important for comics on a literary level, I find a lot of it kinda boring and not terribly fun to read. I find medical studies more exciting, dead serious. But Top Ten, it was different. This was easily the most readable of any of his comics, even better than League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
The idea here is powers are common in the population. You’ve got Gods, AI robots, super powered humans, aliens, and they commit just as many crimes as humans do here in the regular world. The story follows a super powered police force as they prevent crimes, investigate murders, all the regular police stuff. You get thrust right into this world and it’s a bit confusing, but you quickly learn about the characters, all of them are given their time in the spotlight. My Book Two review will go into more detail about these sorts of things.
The story really thrusts you into the action right off the bat. It makes sense, given that you’re in a police precinct. It can take a while to get familiar with all the characters they introduce, but all of them are written in an interesting way. I was a particularly big fan of the dog police chief.
4.5/5 Worth a read for sure!
