I was in New York lately and when I hit up Toytokyo, I saw that they had a ton of those random box Kubrick figures in stock. I’m a huge fan of LOST and Metal Gear and there isn’t that much LOST or Metal Gear merchandise that I want, so what the hell?
In my first LOST box, I received Charlie with a little guitar. In my first Metal Gear box, I received Old Snake with a little gun.

The funny thing is, I don’t even like how they look. I used to think they were garbage, and I still think they’re kind of ugly. But I’ll tell you, these damn things are addictive. I ended up buying a load of them and getting the entire Lost set. The whole random box thing? It’s annoying as hell. People defend it by saying oh, it’s a surprise! It’s not a surprise. You’re paying $6-$10 a box and if you’re looking for that one last figure, LAFFO. GOOD LUCK.
I’m just lucky I’m not a hardcore collector that wants the chase figures. Figures that’re 1/48 or 1/96? Are you kidding me? The Metal Gear chase figures are the best, because they’re clear camo versions. If I’m going to pay $50 for a tiny figure the size of a LEGO dude, I damn well want it to have paint.
I’d like them a little more if their legs could fit into LEGO pegs but what can you do. Despite their goofy appearance, they’ve had some great licences (like Alien and Back to the Future!) so I think these stupid little things will start to grow on me.
