The two statues are obviously quite similar in pose and accessories. It’s primarily a repaint, although the hands are posed differently in the regular/evil versions. So the same praise and critiques that apply to the Evil Supergirl apply fairly well here.

I find that the blue paint scheme made the molding lines less obvious to see, definite plus. It’s a more subtle look, especially on the face, but the whole thing has less contrast than a black/silver paint scheme. Except on the hair, where the different colour made the mold line a little more obvious.

The paint is up to the usual Kotobukiya Bishoujo standards, which is to say, good work all around. Fine detail work, nice metallic highlights, Streaky is fine as well. I’d certainly like to go into more detail but the rest is all covered in the Evil Supergirl review! The problem with reviewing variants I suppose. I still enjoy the sculpting quite a bit, the paint and pose are solid, and still wish that Streaky could be seamlessly removed.

Regular Supergirl hasn’t arrived yet so I won’t be able to directly compare the two. Looking at the paint, I believe the hair was a little darker on the regular one and the eyes are orange, instead of blue. The light blonde on this one turns transparent near the tips, which is pretty popular in the Bishoujo series of statues, I’m still iffy about that. The rest of the paint scheme is pretty sweet, it’s obvious that black, red, and silver make for a bold combination. For the most part, the colours are consistent, except in the silver lining of the cape. For whatever reason, the lining has a few blotchy areas. Fortunately, that doesn’t extend to the other silver parts.

The sculpting is superb. Supergirl looks super cute with a cute facial expression, though not one I’d characterize as evil. About the only obvious flaw is the shoulder joints, they’re clearly visible despite the dark colour. Her musculature, the folds in her fabric from flying, the clouds, and even Streaky the cat are well sculpted. Obviously Streaky is less detailed due to the size. The hair flows nicely though I could’ve done without the single strand in the middle of her forehead.

Upon closer inspection, Streaky appears to be a little messed up in the eyes! That lightning bolt is a little off as well. She attaches via a peg, you can remove her, but the peg hole is pretty ugly. If you have some customization skills, it shouldn’t be a problem. This is definitely the most panty heavy of the Bishoujo statues. The DC statues are definitely pushing the sexual angle (despite this being a cute statue in general!) more than the Marvel ones, I’m alright with both approaches. Gives the different companies a bit of variety!

As far as packaging goes, they used the standard Supergirl packaging and slapped an exclusive sticker on it. It’s a regular window box and protects her well enough. Which I found out when TSA decided to go hog wild on my luggage and crush up a few of my boxes.

4/5. Great looking statue with minor issues. The paint on the cape lining should’ve been better. Streaky should’ve been added in a way that you could remove her without leaving a gaping hole. Is it worth paying double (or more) over the regular Supergirl cost to pick her up? If you’re a fan of the character, I’d say so.

Starting with the pose, I liked that she was effortlessly bending a steel bar. Classic Superman, it works well for her. The skirt and cape are being blown by a light breeze and are well sculpted. The base matches the other Supergirl and has that classy Metropolis feel going for it.

There’s something about the face that I’m not sold on. It’s very cute, but it lacks emotion. It looks like a slightly fake smile, I’m sure anyone that’s walked into a Best Buy knows what that’s all about. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still good and I enjoy it. A a minor tweak would’ve given it more personality. The hair falls down nicely over her head and has a pleasant wave to it in the back.

The paint is very basic but for the most part looks good. Better detail work than most busts in series 2, they nailed the proper colours. The only issue I have is with the flat hair. As you can see from the pictures, there’s a minor amount of shading at best. The shade used is too bright, looks like Supergirl went hog wild with the bleach. It’s almost distracting…but not quite. I’m sure I’ll give it a more realistic repaint.

4/5. I was *this* close to giving it a 3.5/5. However, given the high price of the first (versus the affordable cost of this one) and the relatively minor issues…it got a little bump.
