Newest addition to the Star Wars Ultimate LEGO line – Tydirium (Imperial) Shuttle

For those not familiar with the Ultimate LEGO sets, they include some absolutely incredible ones like the giant Millenium Falcon and Star Destroyer. They take ages to put together, they’re very expensive, but they are top notch collectibles and well worth it. LEGO is bringing a brand new one to the table, the Tydirium Shuttle from Return of the Jedi. Topping out at nearly 30 inches tall, nearly 2 feet wide, and with about 2500 bricks, it’ll set you back around $250.

Gentle Giant releasing line of The Old Republic statues – Starting with Shae Vizla

With The Old Republic having a solid showing at E3 and building up a lot of hype, it makes sense for Gentle Giant to get a line of statues going for it. They’re starting off with Shae Vizla, who appears to be a bounty hunter. What’s puzzling is the small size, 7 inches for a full statue? We’ll see how it goes for them.

This one slipped by since they haven’t done one for a while, here we go :

We are all eagerly awaiting to hear of your releases for the 30th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, and I have really been liking your armored forms. I am wondering if there is any likelihood that you will be producing a General Veers or AT-AT Driver for your 12-inch line?

General Veers is part of our planning – in fact, our development on the Snowtrooper is in some part with Veers in mind – but Veers is likely still a couple of years off at this point. When we discuss the various pilots and vehicle operators, we tend to think that they’d be best offered along with some context – meaning a Biker Scout without a speederbike is incomplete. (Maybe we want to come up with a better example, considering we sold a Bike Scout PF without a speederbike… It’s kind of a slap in the face to those who purchased that product.) It’s certainly more complex to provide an AT-AT in 1:6 scale along with a driver, but we remain committed to some sort of contextual presentation of those types of characters.

Some Premium Format ideas that would be great: Thrawn, Rebel Snowtrooper, Han Solo in Carbonite, Taun Taun Luke and Han – Please give some consideration!

Duly noted on all of your suggestions, and at least two of these are actively under consideration (or better).

Any news on the Clone Trooper Premium Format? Which Clone will it be? Attack of the Clones version, I hope! And will we see any work-in-progress pics?

We’re very close to finishing our prototype of the Clone PF, and we’re likely to debut it at SDCC or very shortly thereafter. It’s looking GREAT and is step one into a killer clone PF program, including some of the clone commanders.

With an appearance in the Iron Man 2 movie, and a likely appearance in The Avengers movie, what are the chances of Sideshow producing a Black Widow Premium Format, Maquette or Comiquette in the near future?

We’d say chances are pretty good…

When is the Optimus Prime Maquette going to be ready for pre-ordering? -AND- When can I expect Optimus Prime to be on my shelf? Can you please give me the release date?

Optimus Prime is one of the most ambitious projects that we’ve ever undertaken. The development has been a bit slower than expected to get it all worked out, but he’s looking phenomenal. We do not currently have a release date set in stone for this piece (either pre-ordering or shipping), but we are tentatively planning to display it at Comic-Con at the end of July, so stay tuned! Gentle Giant reaches out to the grave releasing two sets of Star Wars Death Troopers

Now this is an unusual, but rather awesome addition to any horror collection. Gentle Giant is prepping sets of Star Wars “Death Troopers”, stormtrooper zombies. The cross promotion with the book is decent, but what’s even better is the ability to customize your own bust so your Death Trooper is deformed in one of dozens of ways.

Kotobukiya Slave Leia Statue Review

Easily one of the most iconic female outfits of the last century, it’s no surprise this look has had a few statues and busts based off of it. Specifically, the Kotobukiya Slave Leia statue that I’m reviewing today.

I picked this up because I needed a cheap statue to get free shipping on a large order I was placing. It’s a fairly small piece with a decent little base.

The sculpting is alright. It’s not one of Kotobukiya’s best efforts, even in their Star Wars line. It has an interesting pose, though I’m not sure what emotion it’s trying to convey. The likeness unfortunately isn’t there, I don’t see Leia in the face. The body is well done, it’s pleasant and feminine without being trashy.

The paint is a little off. My pictures are slightly “warmer” than the real statue. It’s very pale. There were no outright paint flaws but in general it’s a little flat and lifeless. The best paint work is on the base.

2.5/5. Not a terrible statue by any means, just kind of mediocre.

Buying Options : Easily available for around $25 on Ebay. I believe it’s been reprinted a few times so it shouldn’t be tough to find in stores either. Check Amazon too.

There’s certain franchises that have so much merchandise that you simply get fed up with how they’re willing to slap their product on everything. Star Wars passed that long ago, but Star Wars does have one pretty unique edge on most other overmarketed franchises…sometimes they’ll come out with something so hilarious and downright awesome that you have to give it major props. With that one of the way, I present the best oven mitt on the planet, the Space Slug oven mitt for $20. From one of my favourite scenes in Empire, you can use this to grab those Millenium Falcon cookies.
