Sideshow’s “Ask Sideshow” Feature

At Comic-Con, you unveiled plans to produce a 20+ inch Optimus Prime maquette. Are there others in the works such as Ravage, Bumblebee, Jetfire, Sideswipe, Arcee, Megatron, The Fallen, Soundwave, etc.? Does the license pertain strictly to the Transformers sequel or will considerations be taken for the first movie for characters such as Blackout, Bonecrusher or Jazz?

At this time, we are only in development on the Optimus Prime maquette. We have discussed concepts for several other characters and product types, but we’re not ready to share those ideas just yet! We’ll let you know how things develop!

Would you consider creating another statue of the original Predator? I revisit the PF/maquette version that you created a few years ago, and I am still amazed at how beautiful and detailed it was. No on else has come close the quality that you bring to this subject/character, and I am sure I am not alone in this opinion and request!

Absolutely – the original Predator will reappear in full-bodied form, in some format, at some point.

As a follow up to your beautiful Predator 1 life-size bust, is there any chance that fans will get a Predator 2 bust in the near future? If so, I would love to see a closed mandible sculpt that has a more aggressive look!

Yes, we do plan to release a Predator 2 Life-Size Bust. We’ll pass along your facial expression suggestion!

I was wondering if Sideshow was planning on visiting the Mos Eisley Cantina for future 12” figure ideas? Top picks for me would be first and foremost Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead), Dice Ibegon, Greedo, Ponda Baba, Takeel (Snaggletooth), Wuher, Ackmena and Dr. Evazan. Have any of these been considered for 12″ or are any in development?

Yes, yes and yes. The scum and villainy of Tatooine will likely play an important role in 2010 and 2011, perhaps beyond!

When will the Premium Format Gambit that’s getting all they hype be available? Any chance of a sneek peak soon?

Yes, you’re likely to get a sneak peek very soon! He’s definitely worth the hype! He won’t be the NEXT Premium Format Marvel character to get a full reveal, but he is definitely coming soon.

I love the new Venom Comiquette, whitch brings me to my question. Will we see a Carnage Comiquette treatment soon?

Any plans for a Deadpool Premium Format Figure?

Yes, you will see Deadpool in the future, although it’s too early to say whether it will be Comiquette or Premium Format.

The Transformers line has 5 figures in total. Optimus Prime, Hot Rod, Starscream, Megatron, and a limited Ultra Magnus figure. Each of the toys comes with multiple hands, and some have multiple faces and other accessories. That’s one thing I like about the Revoltech figures, the accessories they include are excellent. Ultra Magnus includes a hand piece that allows you to hold hands with Optimus Prime. Why? I have no idea, but you can pose them skipping along if that’s your thing. Hot Rod comes with a thumbs up, Optimus comes with the Matrix, it’s great.

I really should’ve taken more time to take these pictures, because I could’ve posed them more. The back of the boxes offers helpful posing suggestions, the Optimus one has him doing a high kick, as well as some kneeling action poses. The figures are weighted well and they’re fairly easy to stand up in a variety of positions. The joints can take a little bit of time to get used to. The way they click, and the way you turn them can be a little tricky at first compared to the joints of American figures, but there’s so many more positions available to you, it’s well worth it.

The paintjobs are all well done, and for mass-market figures, I have no problems whatsoever with them. Same with the sculpts. About the only actual problem I had with the figures was with Ultra Magnus. The left arm on mine comes off of the shoulder joint too easily, and his forearm detaches too easily as well. Considering I own 9 Revoltech figures so far and that’s the only problem with any of the joints, I think it was just some minor factory mistake that you don’t have to worry about. Ultra Magnus is the least interesting character out of all of them anyways, since he’s just a repaint of Optimus Prime with the special hand-holding feature (reading more online, this appears to be for handshakes with Optimus, WHATEVER).

One thing to keep in mind is that Revoltech figures can’t transform in any way. The figures are about $20 each, and shipping can be slightly expensive depending where you buy them. I buy mine from HLJ, where shipping is about $7 per single figure, however, if you buy 3-4, shipping is only around $12 total. My only real request about these is that I wish they’d put out more.

Straight up, Revoltech figures are some of my favourite toys. Great for posing, they look good when they’re displayed, lots of fun accessories, reasonable price.

Buying Options : As of recently, a few of these were on clearance from HLJ and if they sell out there, there’s always Ebay, but shipping can add up quickly, look for domestic sellers. While Optimus is ridiculously expensive, Hot Rod, Starscream, Megatron, and Ultra Magnus aren’t too bad.
