With Vegeta coming out in a few weeks, S.H. Figuarts decided to show off their next figure, Trunks! Seems appropriate to have the son come after the father. Great touch on the two hairstyles as well.

Bluefin S.H. Figuarts Goku SDCC exclusive figure review

I’ve been wanting to get into the Bluefin S.H. Figuarts Dragonball Z line for a while now, their SDCC exclusive Goku figure seemed like the perfect excuse since I pick it up for less than their original Goku after shipping. Score!

Quick Buying Options : Only Ebay appears to have it.

This comes in around Revoltech size. It comes with multiple switch-out hand options as well as a switch-out face for a yelling expression, which, let’s face it, is the default Dragon Ball Z look. While these options give you a good variety of looks, I wish they had included a happy face as well as some energy blast effects, it would’ve been up to Revoltech standards of accessories.

The articulation is great. I had a little trouble getting the body into certain action poses but for the most part, it accepted the fun looks I was going for. I was pleased that it felt solid no matter how much I played with it, none of the poses felt like they could potentially break the figure. It was pretty easy to unbalance him but there’s plenty of stands for little action figures so you could pop Goku into a flying pose. Right now I’ve got him chilling on a shelf, powering up.

The paint was surprisingly top notch. No real issues with it, vibrant, consistent, the likeness was better than I was expecting. It looks like a little Goku should! The hair even has some decent shading (the regular was straight up Super Saiyan so didn’t require any shading I believe). One of the issues I’ve had with a lot of Dragon Ball products is rarely could they capture the DBZ look. The poses didn’t work, the likenesses weren’t quite there, the paint was weak. There were few statues that looked good. So to have an affordable action figure nail the look, I was impressed. Not like it’s terribly complex, most companies just didn’t get it right!

There’s no hiding the joints on this one, it’s clearly not a statue. It’s a quality toy at a reasonable price. I would’ve gladly paid $10 more to get another face + accessories, which would have made it the definitive Goku figure as far as I’m concerned, but oh well. It seems the Figuarts line is going strong so they’ll be releasing Vegeta and others to go with him, which is another big plus. A Dragon Ball collection with only a couple of figures? That’d suck. Seeing how good this figure is is making me reconsider picking up the One Piece ones, which were often on clearance, hmm.

S.H.Figuarts Super Saiyan Son Goku SDCC Exclusive figure + a new site feature!

Not only is this a pretty awesome announcement since the S.H. Figuarts Super Saiyan Son Goku is totally a colour improvement over the existing Goku figure (which I never bought, lucky me!) but I’ve finally worked in a new method of displaying pictures that I’ve wanted to integrate for a while, I think it’ll improve the browsing experience, click the images to see them full-size! No word on the price or how limited it’ll be at SDCC but enjoy the pics!

Banpresto’s Dragon Ball Z Kai prize figures looking pretty good

If you’re a Dragonball fan, hope you like playing those crane games in Japan, or paying someone to do it for you, because these are some of the nicest Dragonball figures/statues that I’ve seen. There’s two separate sets, with each figure coming in around 6 inches tall.

Villianous Dragonball Z Kai plushies ready for release

Banpresto just released some hilarious looking Dragonball Z villians in plush form, coming in at about 8 inches, these are a pretty decent size. Take a look at Cell here, and then Frieze under the cut. Available at whatever import stores you frequent, and probably any conventions you go to for the next year.

New pictures of the S.H. Figuarts Luffy, Ace, and Gohan

Here’s a magazine scan that’s been making the rounds, showing off the painted versions of the S.H. Figuarts Luffy and Ace from One Piece, as well as Gohan from Dragonball Z. The Ace isn’t looking as good as I’d have hoped, he seems a tad generic. Gohan and Luffy on the other hand, not bad, not bad at all. Having Gohan come with 5 different angry faces and 1 normal one is pretty funny.
