New Marvel statues up for order at the Bowen Designs site

Looks like some new releases over at the Bowen Designs site. In the full-size corner, we’ve got :

Kitty Pryde in the only outfit of hers that I don’t like (looks good otherwise, no variant yet)
Sabretooth (no variant yet)
Faux Bronze Namor
Doctor Doom

As for busts, we’ve got :

Modern Thor
Classic Thor
and last but not least, the Dreadnought 2 pack.

That’s a pretty decent statue drop if you ask me. I thought the Namor faux bronze was initially a poor idea, due to it’s low aftermarket value (there ARE 3 of them after all), but I was a little surprised. The larger picture looks surprisingly good and it comes with a reduced pricetag versus other faux bronze statues. It’s listed at $225.

I wasn’t aware he was even planning a variant, but here it is. Modern/classic versions of Doom, with some subtle differences on the face and the obvious arm difference.

I’m not completely sold on this one. I like that they’re doing Doctor Doom and I really like the work around his eyes, but it’s a similar pose to the Bowen statue and some of the paint has issues. Personal preferences aside, it’s an ambitious piece for Kotobukiya’s Marvel villain line of statues.

Bowen Doctor Doom Statue Review

Time to review the classic Doctor Doom Bowen full-size statue. This was also available in mini form.

I might as well get my primary issue out of the way quickly. There’s a few versions of Doom’s armour. This is the classic, which I always thought looked a little goofy, even in comic form. That said, it’s an excellent sculpt. The details are fantastic, the base is great, he looks exactly like Doom from that comic era always did. Even the flowing cape, just perfect for him.

I had absolutely zero problems with the paint. Shading was done well, details were done well, no paint flaws that I could spot. In fact, the only issue I had with this statue (style aside) was that he was difficult to get into his base. It was probably my individual statue, but I had to wiggle him a considerable amount before he stuck in there well.

4.5/5. I didn’t keep this one because as mentioned, he wasn’t the style of Doom that I prefer. He’s an excellent choice otherwise.

Buying Options : As an old Bowen statue, you’re stuck with Ebay on this one.

There’s been talk of a new Doctor Doom for a while, here it is! I’m hoping for some refinements but it’s a promising start.
