My first impression was being surprised at how enormous it was. Coming in at 24 inches with the base, what really sets this apart is how wide/long it is. Spider-Man’s off the wall in a pose you don’t really see from any other characters. You need a serious amount of space to display something like this. It has a fair bit of heft to it as well so make sure whatever you’re displaying it on can support it.

I was surprised they fully sculpted and painted the back of the wall, which probably knocked the price up (the price was a complaint when it was released, not that it prevented it from shooting up in value) but considering you might want to display it from the side, that was definitely a good idea. You wouldn’t want some unfinished looking sculpture when your friends check it from different angles.

Besides the iconic and unique pose, the best part about this is it LOOKS like Spider-Man. The way the eyes are shaped and the emotion they’re expressing, the pose, even the base has a good Manhattan feel. Just looking at this statues seems like it’s straight out of a comic.

One issue I have is that the musculature is a bit intense. Spidey’s certainly ripped, but it’s a bit much for my ideal Spider-Man. Though it matches very well with the Venom, which had crazy huge musculature. The back and butt areas in particular, they’re not quite distracting, but I would’ve been down with them calming down a little! Still, a minor point.

The paint on the base is fantastic. Great weathering and colours, look at the dirt and wear around the edges and the differently colored bricks. Spider-Man himself is painted pretty well but there’s some linework that could be better. The one I received is far better than some of the ones I’ve seen, they had completely unpainted lines in some cases. If you’re looking for one, make sure to ask about the paint! You can see some of the paint issues on the front of the mask in the large picture I posted. Keep in mind, that is a fair bit larger than life though.

The exclusive is an art print. It’s not quite the style of print I like displaying but that’s how it goes sometimes with these exclusive prints.

4.5/5. Arguably the best Spider-Man statue to date in terms of the impressive size, pose, and look. Though my favourite is still the 1/6th Diamond Select statue I reviewed way back in the day, it doesn’t have the same impact as this.

Quick Buying Options : The only option I can find is Ebay.

The first thing everyone notices about this is that it’s enormous. It’s apparently 1/5th scale but trust me, it takes up a ridiculous amount of space due to that pose. Arms extended way back and slamming forwards into the ground, crushing tons of pavement? Talk about dynamic. This is perhaps the most action oriented Hulk statue to date, though the old VS diorama comes close. If this were 1/4th scale, I wouldn’t have been able to get it through my door.

The musculature on this is intense. Everything’s huge and well defined, veins everywhere, the phrase Hulking Out has never been more appropriate. This is the modern Hulk all the way, no classic elements here. Though it is a little strange that his fists are considerably bigger than his entire head. I get that it’s a style thing but the people that were complaining about the head size and haircut do have a valid point. A little bit of a larger head and a slight change to the haircut would’ve made this already impressive statue even better.

Size aside, it has a great face. Any villain seeing this gigantic beast barreling towards them with that expression would probably piss themselves. Whatever complaints existed, seeing this pose and seeing the musculature, I knew this would sell out pretty damn quickly, and I was right. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it has serious presence. Not only did it sell out but it’s started going up in value now because people keep making customs. Take a browse around some forum threads, I’ve seen a gorgeous World War Hulk, lots of hair mods, all sorts of creative stuff!

I think the Hulk would’ve looked better with a slightly darker shade of green but it looks pretty damn good as is. The musculature features heavy shading, the paint is consistent with no rubs, and the details on the face are all solid. The base rubble is fine as well, no real issues. Click on the first image to see it in high-res if you want to see how nice the detail paint work is and keep in mind, that is WAY larger than real life.

4.5/5. Minor head shape/haircut problems aside, this is arguably the best Hulk statue I’ve seen. I vastly prefer the modern look to the look used on the PF and the sheer size of this is great for the Hulk. Though I do think the Bowen Smackdown Hulk and Planet Hulk are top notch as well for those that prefer a smaller/significantly cheaper option. There’s also a World War Hulk coming from Sideshow at some point!

Coming a year or so after Sideshow Collectibles released the Mystique PF, which is a gorgeous statue, the Mystique comiquette had a lot to live up to. It’s part of the Adam Hughes line and based off of her classic look, as opposed to the more modern PF look.

I’ll mention right off the bat that I purchased the exclusive and immediately sold the print. I didn’t like it in the slightest and at least at the time, was consistently selling far cheaper than any other Adam Hughes print. With that out of the way, let’s take a look over her. The first thing you’ll likely notice is she’s a rather dark blue, a fair bit darker than the PF. While I’m sure this is the look Hughes wanted, I prefer a lighter blue, it looks more appealing. I could’ve done with the hair being a slightly lighter shade as well but both are minor complaints, they’re still appealing. Just not as appealing as they could be.

The dress is held in place with strong magnets so for fellow pervs, you can check out Mystique in a less clothed form. Sure, the giant magnet holes are distracting, but no one is actually going to display it that way. They did a great job on hiding the separation between the statue and magnetic parts, I can’t even tell. Moving on to the sculpting detail, it’s superb. From the fantastic base to her killer body, the skull belt, the flowing dress, even her hair, I like all of it. She’s got a really great face and expression. I could do with the breasts being slightly smaller, they’re Powergirl enormous here.

While there are some minor paint issues in the detail areas, there’s little to complain about here. It’s a fairly simple paint job but it looks good for what it is. The skulls look great. One thing that seems a bit bizarre, the Mystique comiquette is enormous. It’s about as tall as the PF version, making her a fair bit larger than most of the Adam Hughes ladies. While it’s unusual to complain about getting more for your dollar, if you’re planning to display her with the rest of the AH gals, it’s something to consider. Compare her to the Black Cat comiquette and there’s a huge difference.

4.5/5. I wouldn’t bother with the exclusive. They made enough of these that you can get the regular for a good price.

Buying Options : Sold out at Sideshow for a while now and not available on Amazon at the moment, check Ebay.

Checking out the exclusive first, I was kinda pissed off about it. It arrived bent (you can see it in the picture) and had two holes in it. Fair warning : Don’t be an idiot Ebay seller and pack it wrong. It’s a damn print, you pack it flat on the side! Not difficult. On the plus side, the print is gorgeous. One of the nicer images I’ve ever seen of Black Cat. It’s actually a little TOO good…more on that later.

On to the statue. The print has Black Cat leaning backwards but for the statue, they decided on a straight pose with no lean. It’s not nearly as sexy and relaxed as the illustration, but you know, it’s not bad either. You can’t really tell in the pictures (since I fixed it a bit), but the grate on mine leans sideways. I might be a total doofus and not putting it in the base right, but it takes away from the effect.

The sculpt on her body is superb. Just look at those curves, damnn. Even though she’s mostly covered, the body suit leaves little to the imagination. The sculpt on the face though…something about it puzzles me. She’s got a really cute face, the hair looks great and flows nicely down the back. I think the problem might be that she looks a little bored. Not really something I want in my lady statues, you know? Still, I like the face better than the Black Cat PF, which I saw at SDCC.

While the paint is simple, most of it is done very well. The skintones are pleasant, and the suit is perfect. It’s just a gloss black, but as you can see from the pictures, there’s a whole lotta reflection going on up in there. The hair is a plain white, a little bit of shading wouldn’t have killed them.

The base on this looks solid. It matches the print well, it’s sculpted nicely, and the paint looks great. Fine job.

The real problem comes when you compare the statue to the print. The print looks a lot nicer. Yeah sure, that’s happened with a few of the Sideshow Hughes statues, it’s just a little worse here than say, the Rogue. But you know what, there’s still a lot to like, and I think this is the cheapest of all the Hughes statues (either that or the She-Hulk, and I think this looks much better). When you consider how large she is, I think a lot of people will be happy with this.

4/5. I’d give this a 3.5 if it weren’t so damn cheap, but well, it is.

Buying Options : It’s old enough that the only place you’ll find it is Ebay.

Dagger is fairly enormous in terms of the comiquettes, she surprised me both with how large the box was, and how large she was out of the box. She’s in a very wide pose due to Cloak’s…cloak and holding it at the edges. If you’re wondering whether it’ll be in scale with the Adam Hughes comiquettes, it really isn’t. Although the enormous AH Mystique release isn’t in scale with them either so it’s not a big deal. Just put her behind them by a few inches.

I had an issue getting her hands to attach to the cloak. It’s possible, but it took some effort. I’ve heard some people couldn’t get it to fit, but Sideshow should be able to take care of that problem. Worst case, just heat up the plastic a little like a bunch of people had to do with Rogue.

The exclusive is really nice. Mark Brooks is a great artist and it’s a very good size, quite a bit larger than some of the recent AH prints.

The sculpt on this is fantastic on the upper half, but I found something lacking about the bottom half. I don’t mean that she’s lacking a butt, since she totally isn’t. Just something about the bottom part is a tiny bit unflattering.

While the paint looks great on her face, I wish they had added some highlights or shadows to the hair, it comes off very flat. The suit itself could’ve used a lighter shade of paint, closer to white.

3.5/5. A rather good start to the line. While it has issues, there’s a lot to like about this statue. Dagger fans should be more than pleased.
