Next up in the Batman : Play Arts Kai lineup – New Batman and Harley Quinn figures

Another Batman armor and the original Arkham Asylum Harley Quinn are up next for the Square Enix Play Arts Kai line of figures. The Batman looks pretty badass and the Harley has a cool accessory but I could never get over how silly her costume looked (and even more so in the second game!). Hopefully this sells well enough that they release an Ivy, her outfit was well designed and would work well in their line. Pre-orders should be available at BBTS and Sideshow in the coming week.

DC Direct drops an absurd amount of announcements – Starting with Dark Knight Rises statues, figures and busts

These are magazine scans so I don’t believe they’re supposed to be announced for a bit yet but you guys get a sneak peek into some surprisingly exciting DC Direct news for 2012! There are enough pictures that I didn’t want to cram them into a single article so prepare for a few over the next couple of hours. Starting with the DC Direct Dark Knight Rises statues and busts.

Starting with : 6 inch Batman, Bane, and Catwoman figures! Though since they don’t look articulated, they’re more like mini and affordable statues. After that, check out the Batman, Bane, and Catwoman 12 inch statues, followed up by the Batman, Bane, and Catwoman busts. I wouldn’t be surprised if they pumped out some action posed statues either.

DC Direct’s April statue solicits – New 52 Batman B&W and Green Lantern animated statue

Only two new statue announcements from DC Direct for their April solicits. They’re releasing a New 52 Batman Black and White by Jim Lee for $79.99 MSRP and a Green Lantern Animated Series maquette for $124.99. Unfortunately I’m not finding myself impressed by either one. I know DC Direct has eased back with other companies having their licence but I’d still love to see more VS statues, more Cover Girls, all sorts of high quality stuff!

Sideshow Collectibles has kept a lot of us waiting on their DC details, well, here’s a whole lot of sneaks! Gotta say, the direction of most of these is looking fantastic.

Kotobukiya releasing a black variant of one of the best Batman statues ever released

Definitely one of the most popular Kotobukiya statues to date and one of my favourite Batman statues ever released (possibly the favourite!) Kotobukiya is releasing a black variant to go with the long sold out blue mode. I don’t have preorder details yet but I’ll update this post when I do. The previous one was made of vinyl and stood at just under 12 inches high.

Lego’s first wave of DC sets is up for order!

The first wave of Lego DC sets is up for order and they’re looking great. Primarily Batman focused (as opposed to their previous DC Legos, which were exclusively Batman), they do expand to include Superman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, and Green Lantern. I imagine the next wave will be more focused on Justice League type characters. It’s good to see them branching out! Here’s a link to all the sets on BBTS. DC Direct Zatanna maquette review

Another classic review, still got about a dozen of these to drop on you guys! A newer review at the end of the week.

I’ve reviewed a few of the maquettes in this line, the Supergirl and the Harley Quinn. The DC Direct Zatanna maquette seems to go for the highest prices in the line, I’m not sure whether that’s due to wider appeal or a lower edition size. Let’s see if this little lady fares better than the others!

Straight up, I’m not a fan of the design. While the idea of popping out of a box and getting handcuffs off in a cute pose is a good concept, it suffers in the execution. Her face isn’t nearly as cute as it looks in the Batman animated series, and since that’s a central focus, it’s somewhat offputting. The pose should be better. It’s not bad, but it looks awkward from a fair few angles and isn’t that great looking even from the front. Considering that’s the angle it’s supposed to be viewed at, it was a little disappointing. The treasure chest is nice. On the other hand, something about her actual chest looks a little strange, at least in picture form.

The paint on this is fine. It’s not excellent, but it does a good job of showing off the animated style and it looks nice on the treasure chest. Could it have been improved on the face and fixed some of my issues with it? I’m sure it could have.

3/5. Good idea, lackluster execution. The high price doesn’t help any.

New Hot Toys licences – Dark Knight and Avengers!

Hot Toys has announced they’ve acquired the Dark Knight and Avengers licences! Dark Knight will have 1/6th and 1/4th figures, as well as vehicles. Avengers will have 1/6th and 1/4th figures. I’m REALLY excited to see what they’ve got in terms of 1/4th figures! I assume that’s due to competition with Enterbay and their recent T-800 statue. I imagine the sneaks will be a few months yet but it is already shaping up to be an incredible year for figures.
