Here’s one of the most underrated statues I own. Diamond Select has a decent rep, but nothing like Bowen and Sideshow, yet some of their statues are straight up superb and super impressive. Of course, other ones are really shitty and unfortunate, especially given their awesome subject material, maybe that’s where the luke-warm rep comes from. On to the Diamond Select Marvel Milestones Spider-man Showdown review!
Diamond Select had two Spider-man statues (aside from their zombie stuff) which I consider really well done. I haven’t purchased the other one yet, but it’s in a more ACTION PACKED pose than this one. This one has pretty much the perfect Spider-man pose. He looks like he’s just weathered some attacks from the Sinister Six, and he’s about ready to jump over and kick their asses. It’s 1/6th scale and fits well with Bowen statues.
The look of Spider-man, the sculpting, and the paint, are what initially sold me on this statue. To me, this is perfect. Far better than the Sideshow Premium Format pose, far better than the other Spider-man statues I’ve seen, it nails the look of Spidey, and it’s quite well shaded. Not too bright, not too dark.
Even though I was already sold on this statue from Spider-man alone, the base adds a lot to it. Adding a few destroyed/discarded props from his villains looks cool and adds character to the base. The rubble looks fantastic, about the only thing that looks cheesy is the molded smoke effects in the back. Smoke effects in general don’t look good, but this looks worse than more recent attempts from other companies. I barely notice them when looking at it, but if it really bothers you…just dremel or crack it off. That seems a bit extreme, and I certainly won’t do it, but I’ve heard of that part really bugging some people, and it’s completely non-essential to the statue. Plus, this doesn’t exactly sell for crazy amounts, so it’s not like you’re screwing up a Premium Format statue or anything.
Really can’t recommend this one enough. There’s so many Spider-man statues out, and I looked at a ton of them. I’m sure there’s a few I haven’t seen, but for the most part, I didn’t like them. He was one of my favourite characters as a kid, it’s nice to be able to get a statue that represents him so well.

Buying Options : This is a good few years old, kinda hard to find it on Ebay too, but hey. Available on Amazon for a ridiculous price but check back to see if someone else doesn’t list it.
