Sideshow Iron Man Mark III 1:1 Bust – Even MORE Paint Problems
Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues
I was pretty excited about this piece before it came out, not that I could’ve afforded it at the time! However, soon after the release, there were reports of awful factory paint jobs. Paint rubs, tons of scratches, inaccurate colours, you name it, this bust suffered from it. For a $700 bust, that’s bull. Sideshow replaced a bunch, gave credit for some others, but it was still a bad situation.
Tonight, a thread popped up that made the earlier problems seem minor in comparison. One collector over at statueforum posted this :

No strange heat or moisture, no direct light…and that happens after a few months?
Other collectors started checking theirs. A LOT of them in the thread were finding paint cracks and chips, and the vast majority kept theirs out of direct light, in air conditioned rooms, etc…

It seems that it wasn’t primed, and the paint is slowly chipping away. There’s a good chance that this will happen to the majority of these busts, which is a damn shame, since it’s sculpted so nicely. I’m putting this out there as a public warning, if you’re interested in this piece, you should PROBABLY AVOID IT. If you can get it for cheap and get it professionally repainted, or repaint it yourself, it’s well worth it! It’s an impressive piece.
It’s a fair bit of dough to gamble with, so yeah, buyer beware.
