Sideshow Collectibles Jack Sparrow Exclusive statue review

Let’s get this out of the way, I forgot to pull the front fabric down so it’s still tucked in on all the pictures. WHOOPS. Moving on, this statue slipped under my radar until right before it was about to come out. While I thought Pirates of the Caribbean 2+3 totally sucked, the first one was a blast, so hey, pleasant surprise from Sideshow Collectibles. Time to take a more indepth look at Jack Sparrow here.

The first thing I noticed was how many accessories came with it. With the exclusive, you get 3 different hands. The exclusive pistol, an open hand for the compass, and a hand holding the coin. Of these, I liked the coin hand the best. It comes with a gorgeous map that goes on top of the barrel, a jug and a bottle of alcohol. Then you’ve got a kickass lantern that lights-up and best of all, it has a flickering effect, which I couldn’t capture in pictures. An extra pistol, which is supposed to go in his belt, and 2 compasses.

The base of this statue (and the accessories that go on it) are a total hit. Everything has such incredible detail and fantastic paintwork. The rotted box with symbols on it, the stone texture, the worn look on the barrel, this is probably my favourite base of any statue to date.

The likeness is there from certain angles, from others, not so much. I find it’s the weakest when viewing the statue from the front, looking up at it (the angle of this photo!). The Hot Toys figure has a better likeness but this one isn’t bad by any means. The paint for the eyes could’ve been a bit better. I’ve noticed in forum threads that many people are having issues with the paint in the middle of the mustache, well as you can see from my picture, mine is fine. It’s not perfect, the paint in that area is a slightly different colour, but you gotta cram your face in there to notice. The best way to display him is at a slight downward angle, the likeness is much better when looking down on it.

The paint in general is good but not without minor issues. You can see some little dots on his arm there, that sort of thing. That’s another thing you won’t notice unless you’re super close.

The fabric on this is some of the best of any Premium Format to date. None of the fabrics feel cheap, they all fit him well, the belts are awesome. They did a great job of putting together multiple fabrics from a fairly complex outfit and making it look pretty much perfect. This is one of those choices that shows the potential of Premium Format statues because the mixed media looks so great.

4/5. This statue kicks ass in so many ways, it’s a shame I had to deduct a point for the likeness and to a far lesser extent, my minor paint issues (would’ve been 1.5 if I had paint problems like some of you). It has some serious presence, you guys are gonna enjoy this one.

Buying Options : As of this review, Sideshow still has the exclusive in stock. Considering the exclusive only costs a few bucks more than the regular and it’s pretty sweet, I say go that route. Or if you’re reading this and it’s sold out, check Ebay.

I enjoyed the first pirates movie if I recall correctly but the 2nd one fell asleep halfway through so don’t recall much of anything.
It’s ironic maybe that the dude who has the best done duds in a PF is a guy that could be wearing the trashiest rags in his occupation.

Might be nice to have Lara with map in hand sitting near him.
Great statue and review. Cool having that light flickering too.

Haha, I fell asleep during the 2nd one as well, it was the last movie I saw in a local drive-in place. I bet the Lara would look great near him actually.

Is it just me or does it look like Jack’s wearing nail-polish on the hand close-up? :-P He sure is in touch with his feminine side!! ;-)

I think that IS nail polish! Along with dirty fingernails. Must be the latest Pirate style by Sparrow…along with spotless and perfectly pressed apparel.

His character always had a feminine flair to it, it makes total sense and I’m pretty sure it’s accurate!
