Sideshow Collectibles Carnage Comiquette Sneak Peek

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

Here comes the companion piece to the Sideshow Collectibles Venom that was just released. Not only that, but in the video they specifically said they were planning to make a Spider-Man comiquette to go with it! Can’t wait to see that, since I’m not a fan of the Spider-Man Premium Format they released. Full video availabe here. Images below the cut.

I signed up to this websight, simply because I just saw this statue and I wanted to vent about it. Primarily because I am a fan of this character. And I bought the first Venom… But secondly, I am a sculptor and I have a lot of problems with the detailed finish on this Carnage. Not that it should matter, but I actually used to sculpt for McFarlane Toys, and we would detail the crap out of our projects there… The rough sculpt on this piece looks wonderful! I LOVE the direction of the anatomy. They over-detailed the muscle groups. Though this is a comic-book character, it lacks the realism, within the realm of comic-book abstraction, as did the first Venom sculpture. I’m not trying to be a snob. I’m just a big fan. I’m dissapointed with this final sculpt. They could have blended the mucle groups together and accentuated others with out detailing them all to maximum copacity. I guess I am a snob. I could have detailed this better. And I know anatomy also, if that helps. I would consider working for these guys, but just like McFarlane they don’t give name credit. Multiple people work on the same projects apparently. This might explaine why this Carnage doesn’t fit well next to the Venom… I’m sure the average comic guy who doesn’t sculpt with think it’s cool “enough.” It looks like it should go well next to the Venom because they have matching bases… I am just a sculptor who is really into this stuff. I need to get off of here. I probably wont be back. Cheers to you all. Buy this thing for 300 bucks and make Sideshow proud…

I see CREATURE138. They have gone into TOO much detail with the striated musculature, almost as if Carnage has no skin. As a sculpture I would prefer the smoother look tho I have never seen him in the comics. It’s too bad they have strayed from the realism of the character.
I disagree with you when you say you’re a snob. At least there is no indication from what you have said to indicate that. As a fan you have a strong opinion on how it should be and you are fed up when Sideshow blew it. I didn’t know Mcfarlane does not give credit to the sculptors who do the work. Sounds to me like that’s kind of snob like or just plain selfish.

Speaking of the McFarlane company I just bought Pumpkinhead and love it and find the detail on their pieces amazing. I remember looking at my Rasputin and being blown away at the nails being visible in the beams. I have quite a few from that company and think they are fantastic. — 12 inch Aliens, Predators, Mandarin Spawn (2nd one) Gunslinger Spawn etc. and others along with some smaller figures. REALLY GREAT pieces.

Best wishes in finding a more appreciative and upright employer who gives credit to whom it is due and is not afraid to be more upfront about who is helping him bring success to his own endeavors. I feel Bowen would be but I suppose it would be tough to get on there.
Thank you for the info. Really hope you will drop around again.
