Fourth hardcover trade in the Ennis Punisher MAX line. This trade, and the one that follows, deals with everything that’s been set up in the previous arcs.
The Russians are back, and so are others from Frank’s past. At this point, the Russians have figured out exactly what happened in the military base and they’re out for blood. It’s a trying arc for Frank, and it ties up some loose ends, though not entirely in pleasant ways.
The second arc is a great idea. The wives of some of the previous criminals that Frank has killed off, they want their revenge. They’ve got some criminal connections, but they’ve never really killed anybody and aren’t sure what to do. It’s just another example of Ennis taking all sorts of different villains and working them into the comics in an intelligent way.
Covers and art, as with all the MAX volumes to date, excellent. It’s obviously not recommended reading for someone fresh to the series since the two arcs in this volume rely heavily on the history of the Ennis run.
