Pop Culture Shock Chun Li Black PCS exclusive statue review
Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues
Sorry for the lack of reviews, I’ve been trying to improve my video setup so all future reviews can have video! This will be one of the last ones without it. Let’s take a look over the Pop Culture Shock Chun Li Black PCS exclusive statue. This is the one that was limited to a mere 50 units!

There were three versions of this statue. The regular (blue), the Sideshow exclusive (red), and the PCS exclusive (black, limited to 50). There was a lot of drama about this piece when it was released and the face paint was significantly different from the prototype. All the black ones were repainted for free by Jerry’s workshop, which was really great of him. This review deals with the repainted face!

Let’s start at the face. The repaint looks significantly better than the one that other customers received. Her eyes look great, the lipstick and teeth are perfect, this is exactly the paint that all of them should have received. Who knows what Capcom’s reasoning was behind the paint change but it was a poor idea. Much of the statue is covered in fabric but that parts that aren’t? The paint on them is as consistently good as the face itself. The base is a plain black like the other Pop Culture Shock bases, no rubs or issues with it.

Up next? Sculpt! Chun-Li is seen raising her leg about to kick out with a hand in front of her face. Not what I’d call an iconic pose since I don’t remember seeing it in much of the art, however, it’s one you don’t usually see in statues and it does put the focus on her enormous thighs, always a prominent feature of Chun-Li! The raised toe on the foot makes her look posed for action. What was refreshing was a Chun-Li statue in a strong, confident pose. So many choose the overtly sexual route, which is rarely if ever how she’s pictured in the games.
My only issue with the sculpt is that the stance she’s in doesn’t seem to match well with her facial expression.

There’s a lot of clothing on this piece and that was definitely a Capcom move. Some people talked about removing the tights and painting them on or removing them entirely. The tights are pretty good but would they have been better painted on? I think so. The dress itself is nicely tailored, though I wish there were a way to fluff up the shoulder puffs to a nice round shape. Though I know at this scale, that’s difficult. As nice as the black is, I’d say the blue and red are more vibrant. The black, especially considering the price, should be be left for the most serious of PCS fans.
4/5. One of the few 1/4 scale Chun-Li statues you’ll be able to get. It’s not what I’d consider a perfect Chun-Li statue but it’s really nicely done. Chun-Li fans should be pretty happy!
