Just spent this weekend working over in the Funimation booth over at NYCC. What a fantastic time. I was a handler for my wife, who was doing some official mascot duties since she was pals with the person running the booth, but that gave me a lot of time to wander the con.
I’m surprised how much of an industry event it is. They premiered new action figures over at the Mattel booth, new Mighty Muggs at Hasbro, DC premiered a whole bunch of new statues (the Adam Hughes line looks fantastic), games such as Ghostbusters, Battlefield 1943, and Mad World were playable, it was impressive. The artist’s alley lineup and autograph booths were great, though I unfortunately was late to the Bruce Timm signing. Dealer’s room was awesome, there was an enormous variety in the types of items you could get and quite reasonable prices, especially on Sunday. I scored solid deals on some statues, got a wonderful print, and my wife got the Aspen crew to sign her Michael Turner tribute book.
I damn near bought the Sideshow premium format Indy for $200, but I dunno, despite the incredibly glowing reviews for it online, it looked a little off. Maybe it was the light, or the way they set him up, but the clothing seemed to fit a little loose, and he seemed far too tan. The base did seem superb, but that wasn’t quite enough. I’ll wait until I’m good enough at painting to give his face a little of a repaint.
At any rate, big thumbs up to NYCC. Met some great people, got some great deals, if you like comics/games/toys, it’s worth a trip.
