Next Cover Girls of DC statue – Adam Hughes designed Batgirl

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

A word of warning, this one has been getting a lot of negative reaction on pretty much every board I’ve seen. The primary issue is that the Cover Girls of DC line has shown confident and strong women, not so much the cheesecake of the Women of DC bust line. When you make a silly cheesecake pose out of the blue, it doesn’t fit well. It makes Babs here look a bit clumsy and goofy compared to the rest. I consider that a valid critique and I may have to pass on this one, but I’m willing to give it a chance in person, it might have that cute appeal that makes me want to pick it up. It’s a little strange that Adam Hughes apparently based this statue off a con sketch as well, instead of a brand new piece.

Reminds me of Adam’s She Hulk statue with the surprise of dropping something. Will this pose accent the strength of the others and also make her standout more? I don’t know but I’m a total sucker for this type of art.
Always loved the art of Gil Elvgren.
Love this too.
The neg reactions might lower the price for greedy little me.

I didn’t mind it so much in She-Hulk because that entire line was super cheesecake. Half the statues look like their boobs are about to explode out of their clothes. Sure, She-Hulk wasn’t a perfect fit (and I didn’t like the execution of the statue either) but I did enjoy the art and I could’ve seen it working. Ah well!

Do you feel the eyes on the She-Hulk should have been angled more to the left like the art? I am wondering if the hair could perhaps not be so full, shaped more like the art. Also the ball shape of the breasts given more of a slope on top? Is she looking more dumb/silly than surprised/attractive?
I am not sure but I do like the art better.

The eyes weren’t my big issue really, I just thought she didn’t look as feminine as she did in the art, and yeah, the hair was enormous. I also wasn’t a fan of them giving her more clothes than she had in the art.
