Gotta say, 2009 is off to a pretty sweet start with all the statue/toy announcements at NYCC and Toy Fair, but it’s not all good news. I found out my current favourite line of toys, Mighty Muggs, are going Toys R Us exclusive.
Whatttt?
Ordering from Toys R Us’ online site is a pain in the ass for Canadians, they rarely have good stock, and finding most Muggs in NYC? Forget about it. You’d think after all the shit Hasbro’s getting for their dumbass Marvel figure decisions, they wouldn’t screw over one of their more profitable lines. Let’s face it, Muggs are easy as hell to design and barely require any original sculpts, and they sell well so uh …. whattttt?
There’s a ton of statues coming out, but it’s hard to justify costs of new statues during a recession, since everyone is trying to sell their toys/statues/everything for way less than normal. I guess it’s good I only have one family member to support, whereas others have full families, retirement funds, obligations. Laffo, suckers. I think I’m going to be “responsible” and limit my toy purchases to cheaper stuff, like action figures, and only my MUST HAVES and things I think will get rare, then use the extra dough to catch up on all the old statues I missed out on. Getting a huge set of the old Batman/Superman animated maquettes would be sweet as hell. Next time I go to a con where they premiere stuff like NYCC, I’m taking pictures. Most of the ones I saw from the convention were fairly subpar since people apparently don’t know how to work their cameras.
