Megahouse Shanks Portrait of Pirates One Piece statue review

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

Shanks is perhaps the best example of a cameo character that exists in One Piece. He’s incredibly important to the history of Luffy and you see him near the start of the series, roughly every 50 episodes he’ll pop in and you’ll get a bit of side story about him. Gradually, you learn he’s one of the most powerful pirates on the sea, but you rarely see why that is. While I’m sure he’ll have a huge part in the story down the line, is it worth buying a figure of him? Keep on reading and find out if Megahouse has done justice to him in the Portrait of Pirates line.

As far as costume design goes, Shanks has one of the more boring outfits in One Piece. Since we haven’t seen him in action, there wasn’t a chance of getting a dynamic pose. So unfortunately, you’re left with a situation of a rather plain looking outfit and a somewhat static pose. When you combine that with Shanks being an easy-going guy, it ends up looking like some dude that’s just hanging around at the beach.

I do like Shanks as a character and they have created a good representation of him in terms of sculpt. The problem is as mentioned above, it’s not terribly interesting. The cape is alright if not rather plain, the sandals and the rest of the clothes look good, especially with how they interact with the sword. He’s even got an expression you would expect from him. It all comes together with a solid but also plain paintjob.

You can remove his cape but that’s as far as this figure goes with display options. The base is the same style with transparency that you’ve come to expect.

He’s nicely done but one of the most bland figures in the Portrait of Pirates line, so I can see why his value hasn’t really went up. If you really like Shanks, grab him, but I have a feeling they’ll release a much better statue once he’s featured more heavily in the story (and I don’t mean the Strong World one).

3/5.

Looks good. Nice museum pose and colors. Cool to put him next to an action piece and have one work off the other. 1/8 scale and measures 22cm or 8.66″ tall.

Quite reasonable on Amazon.
