I wasn’t expecting much from this figure. I’d heard SO MANY bad things about Medicom and their 12″ figures, mainly the Metal Gear line. Cartoony and crappy likenesses, joints breaking from the slightest touch, ditching lines after a couple of figures, and way too expensive for what you get. I gotta say, I think most of those are true! With that downer of an opening out of the way, let’s get on with the rest of the Medicom Clone Trooper Commander figure review.

I won this as a prize from Sideshow. The total cost to me was less than $40, just to cover the shipping. The retail cost of this is around $150, which is a total ripoff, but $40? Sign me up. Popping this out of the shipping box, I was impressed by how snazzy the packaging box looked. Very classy, simple, and collector friendly.

As far as accessories goes, it’s lacking. It comes with the standard trooper blaster rifle and a stand, that’s it. I took a good look at the armour and the gun. The gun looks nice, pretty much just how you’d expect it to. The armour was a little tricky to position to make it look decent, out of the box it’s a little goofy looking so just twist it around until it’s alright.

Once you get the armour and helmet looking good, you can start to appreciate that it’s not a bad quality piece. The paintjob is well done. It’s basic, but that’s how the clone troopers looked in the series. It seems to be fairly accurate from what I remember.
I’ve never moved around the Medicom RAH body before. It was tricky forcing it into a decent position, the way the arms and shoulders moved wasn’t the most user-friendly, but it didn’t feel like I was going to snap it in half or anything.
Overall, pretty happy with it. The Medicom body might be a bit flakey but it works well enough here. Paint and sculpt looks good, looks nice on display, I like it. Would I pay retail for it? Hell no, for $150 I can get something much nicer from Hot Toys. I’ve heard Medicom’s Star Wars stuff goes for under $100 on sale pretty often, in which case, worth it!
3.5/5
