I thought Azumanga Daioh was a fun show ages ago when it came out but I was never interested in any of the merchandise. Most of the girls are 13 and well, look 13, so that doesn’t jive well with what I usually buy. But this particular girl looks older and I decided to see what was up with the Japanese fascination with releasing swimwear versions of characters. Here’s a review of the Kotobukiya Sanaki-San swimsuit statue.

Starting off, from what I remember of the show, I don’t think she’d wear something like this. Really now, it’s a little ridiculous given her enormous breasts. Aside from that, I like that they went with a more casual pose instead of an attempt at a seductive or sexy one. She simply looks like she’s relaxing on the beach, you know, if the beach were a plain white base.

There’s a seam visible from one side of the statue but I doubt anyone’s going to display it that way. Aside from that, she’s very nicely sculpted. About the only complaint is they could’ve toned down the giant breasts a bit, those things are outta control. Pleasant hair and face and all that.

The paint is really simple but it was supposed to be so hey, no complaints there. It’s overall a fairly simple statue, and in that simplicity, it’s appealing.

4/5. I can see the appeal of these bikini styled statues. They’re visually attractive but not oozing sexuality like some statues. You could make a nice little display of these and not come off as a creep, if done properly. Although I imagine most people that buy these don’t bother and they just make a total pervy display, whatever works! It’s not quite what I was looking for in my collection but it was fun reviewing it regardless.

Buying Options : Still available at Amazon. Otherwise, check Ebay.
