If you were to go by the general opinion on most internet forums, you’d think this statue was a giant piece of crap. Sure, a fair few people liked it, but it got trashed a ton, and I think a decent amount of that was because of the fan worship of Sideshow/Bowen. I can see why some Kotobukiya stuff gets trashed as being low quality, but I don’t think that applies here! Onwards to the Kotobukiya Iron Man Mark III statue review.
I would’ve taken a picture of the base, but it was a tad too big for my ghetto lightbox. I think the base looks fantastic though, nothing too complex, but well done. The sculpting looks really solid and the statue has a great heft to it. Size-wise, he’s not enormous, but he compares well to say, Bowen’s Modern Ironman statue. There were a lot of complaints about his colour, and honestly, it’s not that bad. The red is a tad too dark, but movie Ironman is a darker colour than comic Ironman, and that has to be factored in. The paint on mine is rather good, but it’s not perfect. Inspecting it from about a foot away, it’s not noticeable, but if you get your face all up in there, you can see some minor blemishes in the gold areas and one or two small problems on the left foot, off to the side. I didn’t bother taking pictures of these because it was quite minor, and I figure the description covers it.
He’s got 4 lights, one behind his eyes, one on his chest, and one on each of his hands. The light-up feature isn’t as amazing as it is on some statues, but it’s a good gimmick and adds a bit to the piece. I think what I like best about the piece is that it has a bold pose, without being an action shot. Not a standard museum piece, and not at all an action shot, but still nice. I’d say it’s worth picking up, especially with how low the prices for it are on Ebay.
