Here’s a review of one of the first statues I ever bought, the Gentle Giant Animated Leia statue.
Ever since I saw the animated style in the original Clone Wars cartoon, I thought it was pretty awesome. Gentle Giant apparently went on to create some statues from that, then they created a line of original series statues with that style. I’m a big fan of stylized stuff when it’s one well, and I think Gentle Giant really nailed this line.
Not that I’m completely happy with it. For whatever reason, my R2 is a little yellow. You can’t really tell in the picture, but trust me, it’s pretty easy to see in person. However, a local pal of mine has one, and his is perfectly white. Mine isn’t in direct sunlight or anything, so I’m assuming I just got a dud. The gun also came with some of the paint chipped off of it. At some point, I’m going to repaint that. It’s not that easily noticed, but you can see it in the picture.
The base looks surprisingly nice, considering how simple it is. The sculpt, and the paint are well done. Not a superb paintjob or anything, but one I’m rather happy with. It’s one of the better Star Wars statues, but if you’re not a fan of the style, obviously, not for you.
Oh yeah! The arm on mine also came broken. I’m not sure if shipping problems were common with this, or I just got the short end of the statue stick on this one, but that was the easiest statue fix I’ve had to date. It didn’t shatter, it was simply loose from the arm housing, it just required glue and it’s stuck since.
I like the line enough that I own another of the animated statues (the C3PO one) and I’m planning on buying at least another 4-5 of them, including a really cool Entertainment Earth exclusive one coming out in October or so.
