Gentle Giant Darth Vader Kneeling Statue Review

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

From the first time I saw this, I thought this was a really unique statue. Most Vader statues are in a museum, or slight action pose. This shows a different side of Vader, and it’s from a great sequence in the original trilogy. On to the Gentle Giant Kneeling Vader statue review.

Upon receiving this, it was way bigger than I expected. Considering the pose, I figured it’d be about 9 inches high. I had never looked up the actual stats on the statue, so imagine my surprise when it turned out to be about 12 inches. Really heavy too. The sculpt is straight up gorgeous. His pose is dead-on, the details on his suit are well crafted, the cape looks fantastic, and even the rear leg, with the cape partially over it, is perfect.

The paint is exactly how I would’ve wanted it. Looks just like the suit does in the movies, and the details look nice, even up close. I’m sure there’s some minor flaws, but none that I could see. Of course, there’s one really great feature about this statue that adds to the whole presentation, and is more appropriate here than on most statues that use it.

The light-up base! During the day, it doesn’t do much for the statue. But once you turn off the lights, it’s amazing. It illuminates Vader well, and while you have to put up with a small focus problem I had for my photos that I didn’t notice till after the shoot, you can still get a good idea of how it looks. Very cool, and very well done.

I was running out of room in my display area, so I placed this at the bottom of my detolf. Gotta say, it doesn’t look impressive when you look down upon it. This statue is one of those ones where you need a certain angle to appreciate it, which can limit display options. I found it works well at eye level, but it works best when displayed above eye level, and in an area where you can reach the back of the statue (that’s where the light button is). The main problems with this statue would be that it wouldn’t fit in a lot of people’s collections, it doesn’t display well in some locations, and honestly, there’s a lot of kickass Vader statues (Sideshow Premium Format, Kotobukiya ROTS Vader, Gentle Giant’s other Vader, and some people love the Attakus ones), so this might not be the best fit for you. It’s a very interesting display piece though, and I do quite enjoy it.

4/5
