I always liked this piece in previews but never felt the need to buy a piece with a busted up C-3PO and a little jerk jawa. But as usual with reviews here, I got a fantastic deal on it so I couldn’t help it. On to my review of the Gentle Giant animated C-3PO and Jawa statue.
Gentle Giant’s animated line has consistently had an interesting look to it. Sometimes the designs come off a little weird but when they nail it, they create a simple but fantastic look. This happens to be the case here.
One thing I like about this piece is it makes me chuckle. C-3PO’s expression, the slightly evil look the jawa is giving, it’s a very expressive piece considering it’s in a simple animated style with a robot and a midget with no face.
The sculpting on it is great. They’ve taken 3PO and the jawa and done an excellent job on them. From the base with it’s nicely laid out sand to the pose of 3PO, leaning away from the jawa. Both of their bodies are very stylish and clean. I wouldn’t change a thing.
The paint is just as nicely done. Clean and crisp colours, lots of variety, fantastic job on the jawa’s eyes. No paint drips, no problems with the detail work.
Another nice thing is this is a cheapo piece. Having a fairly large production run and a limited character appeal will do that.
4.5/5. Great statue for Star Wars fans. Not essential characters, but a nice addition to an animated collection.
