Recast statues are copies of existing statues. This is done by creating a mold and casting additional statues. It’s a big no-no in the statue community because it’s copying an existing product, and often, people who do this pretend they’re real statues. So you pay full price and get a forgery that can come with a number of problems, including inferior paintjobs. If you’re buying a statue that’s on this list, make sure you take extra care that it’s legit. This is by no means a complete list.

Michael Turner Supergirl Statue – So far the only recasts I’ve seen of this have been in kit form, as seen below.

Sideshow Collectibles
1:1 Alien Warrior Bust – I’ve seen this available in both pre-painted and kit forms. Ebay seller wwwmoviepropsch was selling this in Europe, and there have been recasting operations in China I believe. They’ve even mentioned in their auctions that they get in shipments, so it’s not a one-off thing. The recasts go from $1-$2k so be careful if you see auctions around that range. The auctions have used a variety of pictures, including official Sideshow pictures, and outdoors ones like the one below. Considering the amount of money involved, buy this one from reputable sellers only.
UPDATE : This is now being sold in resin kit form as well. If you see a 1:1 scale Alien bust resin kit that you believe looks similar to this bust, it’s because it’s a recast.

Iron Man Comiquette – This statue has been HEAVILY recast. To the point where buying a legitimate one can actually be difficult. Sometimes the signs of it being a recast are obvious, as in the picture below. In that one, the paint application is the wrong colours, the base has very sloppy paint, and Tony’s face is iffy. However, in other cases, people have said their recasts have been nearly perfect in duplicating the original factory paint. Some of the recasts even have the original Sideshow boxes and styrofoam. However, there is ONE guaranteed way (so far) to tell if it’s a recast.
All fakes have silver neck pegs and a round, silver foot peg. All originals had dark copper neck pegs and a square copper foot peg. Keep an eye out, ask the seller about this before buying.

Hulk vs Spider-Man Dio – Another very popular recast. If you compare the paintwork, for some reason the recasts (mostly) have a very “dramatic” interpretation. Very heavy on the darker colours and shading. The official Sideshow pictures (and most in house pictures) show it as far more subtle. As far as I know, there are no recasts of the exclusive version of this statue.

Stealth Iron Man Comiquette – Since this statue is of a lesser value than some of the above, recasts appear more rare. Some revealing signs of a recast are spelling mistakes on the shipping box (fungtion), poor quality styrofoam, and dull paint.
