DC Direct Wonder Woman Maquette Review

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

DC Direct has started releasing maquettes for all their recent animated movies. The Wonder Woman movie was fun and here’s the statue that came from it.

I’m a big fan of animated maquettes in general. This one doesn’t disappoint. Wonder Woman is in a strong museum pose and the lasso is a fantastic touch. I’m not sure why they decided to give her a bit of a smirk since that doesn’t exactly fit with the movie, but it’s not bad. The sculpting on the hair, armour bits, boots, it’s all really solid. The base fits well with most of the previous animated maquettes DC Direct released.

The really nice thing about this Wonder Woman is she displays well from a few angles. It’s obvious she’s supposed to display from the front, since that’s where the base nameplate faces. But I’m sure some of you dudes will display her like the picture above, with caboose facing forwards. Even then, it looks good.

There’s one huge flaw with this statue, even though you’ll find it difficult to see in my pictures. What can I say, I’m a decent photographer. She’s a little cross-eyed. The one I saw in Midtown Comics? It was way more cross-eyed, you could easily tell from a few feet away. I wish I had gotten a picture. It’s only annoying up close, but man, it looks really dumb once you see it. I’ll have to repaint the eyes.

3.5/5. It would get a 4 or 4.5 easily with decent eyes, but since the only two I’ve seen have both been cross-eyed, I’m going to assume that’s common. On the plus side, it’s DIRT CHEAP on Ebay. We’re talking $45 shipped, maybe less if you’re lucky. A little more on Amazon, but not too much.

I LIKE the smirk and the mouth on both profiles ROCKS!

Unfortunate about the “Adam Hughes Mary Jane” wandering eyes on some of them but as mentioned a small fix. May even encourage some to try out painting skills which could lead to the fun of doing kits and at the bargain price well worth getting. This is a BEAUTIFUL figure to me and would be really nice to have. All of the shots are equally impressive — the middle and bottom shots being my favorites.

Thank you for mentioning the movies. If she looks like this, or even close to it, I will definitly have a look.

I managed to get this for about $50 on Ebay a few months back. WELL WORTH IT. Goes nicely with the Superman/Batman lately.

I actually wasn’t aware the Adam Hughes Mary Jane had the same problem, that’s one I want for my collection, so I’ll have to be sure to watch out for that. Thanks for the heads up.

More than welcome D.
I don’t think it is too bad tho.
Mine is hardly noticeable though some pics elsewhere show it pretty pronounced and guys on SF were complaining about it.
I feel MJ – with your painting ability would be a worthwhile grab eyes any condition ( of course price considered) …thinking don’t see her that often.

She IS a BEAUTY. Tony Cipriano one of my favorite sculptors
H of a nice guy too – from what I’ve seen.
