Time to look at a recent Bowen Designs statue, the Avenger’s classic foe, Ultron.
This statue was released during a time of severe Bowen Designs paint problems. If I remember right, whatever factory they were using was pumping out turd after turd, giving results like the Deathlok I reviewed. Ultron ended up having his production run slashed to 723, but from what I’ve heard, most if not all of those 723 are solid.
Ultron’s design has always come off as silly for me. Not even in a bad way, I love the guy, but he’s never been menacing. It’s that big goofy mouth. I’m happy to say that this Ultron doesn’t disappoint in that regard. He’s got the big :O mouth going on.
The sculpting in general is solid. I saw this guy in the store and I knew I had to have him. He’s standing upon some rubble as if he just demolished the Avenger’s mansion yet again, kinda looks like he’s getting ready to hit something again with one hand clenched. It’s not a terribly dynamic pose, but it fits.
The paint on mine is quite good. I’ve seen this one get custom chromed and it looks fantastic, but for a regular non-chrome factory paintjob? No complaints. Suitably shiny, no paint drips, it’s all good.
4/5.
Buying Options : Despite his small production run, he hasn’t risen in value online yet. You might be able to find him at your local comic store during a sale, otherwise, check Ebay. Prices are pretty decent on Amazon right now.
