Bowen Designs Thor faux bronze statue review

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

That’s right, I’m looking at the Bowen Designs Thor faux bronze statue this week. Last week I checked out the full colour version of this statue, this week I’m doing something special. The first What’s Your Obsession video review (in HD)! You can expect new video reviews every 2-4 weeks depending on how busy I am, since these take a bit of time to do.

I’ll be supplementing the video reviews with the traditional text and pictures, for those people who can’t watch video, or simply can’t stand the sight of my face. To be completely honest, this review is kinda stiff and there are technical issues. I’ve already filmed (but not edited) the next video, and it’s far better on both fronts. I needed some practice in front of the camera again, and this was it.

That said, enjoy whatever version of this review you decide to partake in.

For those that tuned in last week, you got to see the Bowen Designs Thor colour statue receive top marks. It’s a fantastic statue and this is based off of the same sculpt. This particular version is far more limited, came in at a higher MSRP, and was released a while later.

I should mention that I’m not a fan of the faux bronze line in general. I think it’s an overly expensive and overused gimmick to assign a fake touch of class to most statues. That said, there are a few pieces that have the perfect feel for it. It’s a short list, but at the very least, that includes Spider-Man, Hulk, and this Thor statue.

You’ll notice this has a marvelous pose and sculpt. It gives off plenty of raw, but restrained power. The faux bronze paint here is well applied, with different shades helping emphasize the armour, his expression, and his muscles. The base looks as good as you’d expect. You might also notice that the tip of one of the wings is broken on mine. That’s not a Bowen Designs packaging issue or anything like that. That was something that happened to the previous buyer. He gave me a partial refund when he noticed it, so things are alright there.

If you have to decide between this one and the colour one? I’d go with the colour one. However, it’s very close. This is a surprisingly great way to break into the faux bronze world because it’s one of the few times the faux bronze is cheaper than the traditional statue. Whether you decide you want to build a faux bronze collection or simply display it on it’s own, it’s a good purchase either way.

4.5/5

Buying Options : You can check out my previous Bowen Designs Thor statue review for a few suggestions from Shanno on where to find this in stock, or you can check Ebay and try your luck.

EXCELLENT REVIEWS!! I especially enjoyed the video! You are practicing? ALREADY you are a professional announcer! Without a lie you have the voice Dr_T ( and I must add the perfect bearing/demeanor)! GREAT JOB! I had a couple of friends who were in announcing (radio – since the late 40′s, early 50′s) and I know they would agree with me. VERY NICE to have this personal touch!
.
When I first saw this stunning FB Thor I felt I just had to have it. My absolute first choice for any of them. And maybe one day I will but as you mentioned they would be best displayed with others of same type and I like to have the regular ones first if possible. I really cannot afford to have everything (at this time haha).
I am so often surprised at how our thoughts on statues coincide and I think you have described this FB perfectly in all aspects. Thank You for these reviews!

Shanno : Thanks for the compliments. I read it with no script and ran into a lot of audio (and some video) issues, so if you liked it now, it’ll get better in the future. Especially when people can actually hear my reviews, haha.

Wilkins : Thanks. It sounds like you need to update flash on your IE install. It should work fine in IE otherwise, it’s just a standard Youtube embedded video.
