Time for my first Bowen review. I saw a great deal on a Bowen Designs Modern Iron Man and a classic costume Wolverine museum pose. Decided to start it off with the Modern Iron Man.

The promo pics looked fantastic. Great base, fairly dynamic pose, good start. But after cracking this guy open, I wasn’t too happy about him. The Kotobukiya movie Iron Man has his own issues, but looking at the two, I know which one I like better.

There were a LOT of paint issues with this particular statue, they had to recall a ton of them for that reason. I’ve got problems with the paint, but compared to some of the ones I saw, mine is way better. The first thing I noticed was that the paint application itself, especially on the gold, isn’t entirely smooth.

You can see minor brushstrokes if you’re in closer, but no big deal if you’re not sticking your face up against Iron Man’s crotch. My main problem with the paint is the colour used on the jewel/arm jewel areas. That’s something that should be vibrant, not the blah buttermilk that they used.

In person, the base doesn’t look quite as good as I’d like. It’s by no means bad, but it doesn’t have the oomph it did in photos. The pose is solid, no complaints there. There is a little something about the sculpt that bothered me. The face. The expression looks a little goofy to me, whereas the Kotobukiya one looks tough and mean.

Overall, I found it underwhelming. While it’s a good statue and it’s an absolute bargain, there’s too many Iron Man statues or figures that I’d rather have than this one. If I were a huge Iron Man fan and wanted a bunch of statues to go with each other, I’d keep this in my collection, but since I’m not, I’ll be selling it.
