Bowen Designs Hulkbuster Battle Damaged Exclusive Statue Review
Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues
A little while back Bowen Designs announced it was doing a Hulkbuster statue. They also announced they were creating a battle damaged version for the Collector’s Club, limited to 300. On with the review.
First thing you’ve got to realize is that this statue is expensive. Not just a little pricey, I think it retailed at $350 or so with no discount for club members. Considering the 1/4th scale Sideshow Hulkbuster retails at $420 or so, doesn’t seem like the greatest value, even with the incredibly limited run.
One thing to keep in mind between the Bowen Hulkbuster and the Sideshow Hulkbuster is that they’re based off of different designs, so they look physically different. Obviously, if you prefer one style to another, that would affect your preference between the two.
I’m a little puzzled by the museum pose. The ground looks like it just exploded around him, I would’ve preferred a slightly more dynamic pose in this case. That said, he does look like he’s getting ready to hit something, so it’s not a big deal.
The battle damage on this is surprisingly nice. It’s not just a repaint, there’s physical chips, marks, cracks, and broken areas. It’s some of the better battle damage I’ve seen on a statue.
What’s not shown in my pictures is that you can flip the helmet up and you can place either a traditional Iron Man helmet or a Tony Stark portrait beneath. Both look rather good, although the default Hulkbuster helmet looks the best. Pretty much because it’s goofy as hell to have a small head and an enormous body. Besides, it’s not terribly safe to take off your helmet when someone like the Hulk is smashing your face in.
The paint is fantastic. Superb colour and detail. Zero problems there. But let’s face it, on a battle damaged statue, that’s one of the benefits. Paint screwed up? It’s battle damaged anyways! You could chip some of this statue and it’d probably look fine.
4/5. This was a tough rating to give. It’s a great statue but it’s incredibly overpriced. When you consider you can get the regular edition for $150, it’s difficult to recommend this. Counting value, 2.5/5.
Buying Options : Oddly enough, it’s available on Amazon for less than I sold mine for on Ebay.
