Bowen Designs Hulkbuster Battle Damaged Exclusive Statue Review

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

A little while back Bowen Designs announced it was doing a Hulkbuster statue. They also announced they were creating a battle damaged version for the Collector’s Club, limited to 300. On with the review.

First thing you’ve got to realize is that this statue is expensive. Not just a little pricey, I think it retailed at $350 or so with no discount for club members. Considering the 1/4th scale Sideshow Hulkbuster retails at $420 or so, doesn’t seem like the greatest value, even with the incredibly limited run.

One thing to keep in mind between the Bowen Hulkbuster and the Sideshow Hulkbuster is that they’re based off of different designs, so they look physically different. Obviously, if you prefer one style to another, that would affect your preference between the two.

I’m a little puzzled by the museum pose. The ground looks like it just exploded around him, I would’ve preferred a slightly more dynamic pose in this case. That said, he does look like he’s getting ready to hit something, so it’s not a big deal.

The battle damage on this is surprisingly nice. It’s not just a repaint, there’s physical chips, marks, cracks, and broken areas. It’s some of the better battle damage I’ve seen on a statue.

What’s not shown in my pictures is that you can flip the helmet up and you can place either a traditional Iron Man helmet or a Tony Stark portrait beneath. Both look rather good, although the default Hulkbuster helmet looks the best. Pretty much because it’s goofy as hell to have a small head and an enormous body. Besides, it’s not terribly safe to take off your helmet when someone like the Hulk is smashing your face in.

The paint is fantastic. Superb colour and detail. Zero problems there. But let’s face it, on a battle damaged statue, that’s one of the benefits. Paint screwed up? It’s battle damaged anyways! You could chip some of this statue and it’d probably look fine.

4/5. This was a tough rating to give. It’s a great statue but it’s incredibly overpriced. When you consider you can get the regular edition for $150, it’s difficult to recommend this. Counting value, 2.5/5.

Buying Options : Oddly enough, it’s available on Amazon for less than I sold mine for on Ebay.

LOL about the no need to worry if you chip it part…was just thinking same also.

It IS impressive and maybe the change of features raised the price but like you said a pea sized head and one unprotected when goin’ in …well …comic relief maybe.
I never thought of the base/stance relationship but thinking about it if he just landed and pushed up debris seems a trifle posed….
Must admit D your reviews are top notch..all I can seem to do is agree.

We gotta get more traffic around here. WYOs ( What’s your obseesionists) are truly missing out and not just on the latest stuff and reviews but on some of those top notch deals on the left.

.
On the other hand…probably lots of lurkers taking everything in and playin’ it cool ….and that’s cool!

Traffic has been pretty decent the past two or three months actually, it just takes a long time for people to bother registering and to get them to leave comments. There have been a few more people registering lately though so I figure it’s all a snowball effect, it’ll build up!

Thanks for the compliment on the review too.

I know the frustration. Even sometimes when I could afford a Bowen exclusive or collectors edition (whatever called) and really wanted it International customers are not able to buy Marvel through Bowen’s site. Marvel restrictions or something. Don’t know if that is changed – never go there anymore. (think not)

I noticed that HoldyourfireAl at StatueMarvels is sometimes able to order for us which is GREAT!

I saw that he helped a bunch of people with that, that was cool of him. The only exclusive (besides this one) that I wanted to get was the Cable one, but ah well, I’ll go without.

That is a downer about the Cable for you. One member on that site claims these nearly always come up elsewhere (the Ex’s) and sometimes for less. I really don’t know but I often have fun thinking maybe I’ll get lucky and more often than not do (but never looked / tried for Exs).

But I know sometimes ya gotta be pretty darn lucky! Did you see that one Hulk just recently that SS had and lasted ’bout a micro-milli nano sec?? I though I saw they did that about a week ago too?? They prob have oodles to dangle, not like carrots, like giant watermelons, hoping they’ll make a splash, draw fans back. Often wonder if the difficulty ordering on a sale or immediate release is a SS ploy to raise frustration levels to a point where fans to get a release, order something other than what they are seeking. Simple psyc 101 in boosting sales??
Or am I traveling through Paranoid Place here D?? Cynic City “the return”??…the reruns?..the runs?
