Just received this guy in the mail today. For those that don’t know who Deathlok is, he was a B-list Marvel character who had his own comic for a while and has appeared in a bunch of others. Visually, he’s a cross between the Punisher and Robocop with some zombie kicked in there. I wasn’t planning to buy him, but one day I was browsing Ebay in some sort of groggy state and saw him ending in two minutes at a good price. Before I knew it, I had won the auction, welp. On to the Bowen Designs Dethlok review.
Very cool pose. A little threatening, but not outright menacing. It’s strong and displays well from a variety of angles. The suit is visually appealing (to me) but admittedly, it’s probably not one that will fit in with a lot of themed Bowen displays, since I know there’s tons of statue collectors that Bowen themes. I’m sure you guys will figure it out!
The sculpt is pretty much dead on. I have a bit of a problem with his left bicep, I think it looks slightly awkward, but I imagine mine will be about the same size in a few weeks so who am I to judge. The base is fairly simple and doesn’t stand out, I could go either way on that one.
Now, despite the front looking fantastic, the back of my statue had some huge problems. I want to throw up a warning here. A few of the more recent Bowen statues were made in a really shitty factory that screwed up paintjobs on many of the statues. I’m not blaming Bowen Designs for this, they just got unlucky with the factory and have since switched over. I believe the original Nova statue is the last one coming from that factory.
Anyways, the back of the statue looks like crap, and it was difficult to show how bad some of it was, but I tried to outline the problem areas (in addition, the left side of the backpack, the actual side that you can’t see, about half of it is red when it should be completely blue).
As you can see, shit sucks. I can’t blame anyone except the painter, and I don’t think it’d be fair to rate the statue lower because of it. However, when you’re buying it, there’s a chance you’ll also get a poor paint job. Considering that it goes for fairly cheap prices online, and it’s got a rather unique look to it, it might be worth it for you.

Buying Options : It wasn’t that popular, you should be able to find it on sale at local/online stores. Otherwise, you know the drill, off to Ebay. There’s not unreasonable prices via Amazon’s third party merchants for now.
