The first statue in the Hank Pym statue onslaught that’s coming down the pipes, the Bowen Designs Ant-Man. There were two versions of this, the regular which I’m reviewing, and the exclusive, which unfortunately looked way nicer with a fun shrinking effect.

As with many of the recent Bowen statues, the regular Ant-Man can be had for very reasonable prices on Ebay. I was hoping to get the exclusive because I really enjoyed the visual appeal of the shrinking Ant-Man but when the regular version is this cheap…it’s tough to justify the extra dough. Ant-Man always had a simple outfit and a simple paint scheme. Red/blue/black/silver with very few designs on him. Despite the simplicity, he’s well painted with the shading. I suppose they could’ve went a little lighter on the shading in the chest area because currently, he looks enormous (for his size). While Hank was always in great shape, he was a regular human, he wasn’t Captain America or Wolverine.

The base is really cool on this, it was one of my favourite touches. It’s simple and flat but one of the most interesting museum pose bases to date. It’s a giant coin! It’d be nice if more museum pose statues had this much thought behind them. It’s not a complex base in the slightest, it’s just that looking at it makes you feel it’s completely appropriate for the character.

One flaw for this statue is it’s kinda boring. Ant-Man isn’t exactly a standalone hero, it’s in a museum pose, and his design isn’t too exciting either. He’s a great companion piece, he’s just not an A-lister.
3.5/5. A good statue and quite affordable, but unless you have the rest of the Avengers? Think about whether he’s worth it. The exclusive is much more cool but then you have to figure out if you want to drop that dough on Ant-Man or if you’re better off waiting for Giant Man.
