Bowen Captain America Classic Bust Review

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

I’ve never reviewed a Bowen bust before, so here we go. I scored a Bowen Captain America bust, the first version. Now I’ll state straight up that I’m not a fan of most Bowen busts. The majority of them look like they just cut out part of a full size figure, and I don’t find their bases very exciting. There’s a few I’ve seen that’re quite cool, like the Ultron mini bust, but yeah, not a fan in general.

This one is a little more unique than most Bowen superhero busts. The statue is in a V shape and has his shield on his back. The paint is really nicely done, the face sculpt is also nicely done, and the base is simple but classy. I can see how a lot of people would enjoy it, and why it’s rare. As far as comic Captain America goes, this is probably the best representation of him in mini bust form.

That said, seeing it in person, I don’t really enjoy it. The arms being cut off, the base, they just don’t appeal to me on an aesthetic level. When I look at it, I don’t think “Oh wow, what a great bust”, I just go “Eh”. That’s obviously subjective and could change over time, because I used to believe that all busts suck, and now I’m working on completing my collection of the Women of DC busts, and Sideshow’s Legendary Scale busts are also on my to-buy list at some point.

3/5. I can appreciate it for it’s technical qualities, and it’s well done, it’s just not for me.

Buying Options : An early phase Bowen bust? You know here to go. As of last check, some Amazon third party merchants still had it.
