Batman – Black and White – Andy Kubert Statue Review

Posted by: Dr_Teng In: Statues

This is the second statue I’ve purchased from this series, the Batman Black and White Andy Kubert statue. I also have the Jim Lee one, but it’s down at my wife’s place so I haven’t reviewed it yet. The Black and White series is a bit of a strange one. One, it looks visually quite a bit different than the majority of statues (being black and white…) and two, it offers a wide variety of artistic styles and poses. Something I’ve found about these is they’re difficult to display. Using an IKEA Detolf isn’t ideal, you want something wider. A lot of these statues are much more wide than you’d think. On to the Andy Kubert review!

I find most of the Black and White statues to be somewhat unappealing, but that’s one of the cool things about them. A style I hate might be one that someone else loves. For example, I don’t think the Mignola one is that appealing (though I often enjoy his art) but other people absolutely love it and it goes for around $150-$200 online. The Andy Kubert statue was one of the most visually appealing to me, and can be had at quite an affordable price. I think mine came to about $35-$40 shipped.

I found it to be a fairly dynamic pose with good detail. I like that he’s partially hidden behind his cape, and that he’s prepping a batarang. The common complaints about the line are from people saying it’s too small, but for the price you pay and the quality you get, I think it’s quite a reasonable size. Another common complaint is from completionists. If you’re obsessive like that, this isn’t the line for you. They’re expanding into villains now (the upcoming Bolland Penguin looks good!) and I bet they’re going to keep this line going for a long time. I can’t think of a single complaint with this, for what it is, they really nailed it.

Overall : 5/5

Buying Options : This is sold out at most online stores, it’s been out for a while. Fortunately, it’s not that expensive on the secondary market. Ebay it is. Make sure to check Amazon too.
