I was browsing the local online classifieds when I stumbled upon something pretty damn amazing. A 1:1 custom Queen Alien bust. I did my research on the item, and it turns out it’s from 3dWizArt, an Ebay seller, who does 1:1 casts of a variety of Alien/Predator stuff.
It’s about 3 feet tall, 2 feet wide, and what was most impressive to me is it has a depth of about 2 feet. This thing is so enormous that it dwarfs everything else in my room. I had some statues which took up a pretty big amount of space, but they don’t even compare in the slightest. I guess that’s the main thing with 1:1 scale pieces. They really stop you in your tracks compared to other statues.
Now, that’s not to say that they’re my ~new favourite things~, because they’re not. I find lots of 1:1 pieces really lacking and lame looking, but this one is certainly an exception. It’s got a good solid weight to it, whoever painted it (they normally come unpainted) did a wonderful job, and the sculpt is just top notch. Everything from the claw near the bottom, to the wall, to the interior of the Queen Alien’s mouth, no detail is overlooked that I can see.
Some people might not like that the external covering on top of the Queen’s face isn’t exactly center, or that the bottom of the jaw isn’t exactly center, but I find that to be a small problem, at best. It was shown in the movie that her face can move that way, and while not my ideal design choice, I can’t see anyone passing up this piece over something so small. Anyways, just keep in mind that as mentioned, this does come unpainted. If you can paint, or know someone that can, or you get lucky and stumble upon an already painted one like I did, snatch it up. It’s a fantastic piece for any Alien fan, and I’ll likely buy a few 1:1 Alien eggs to go with it.
